Solidworks is a parametric 3D modeling and drafting software tool used for designing, reviewing, and sharing 3D data. The company focuses on four disciplines of product design: manufacturing, architecture, engineering, and construction. The 2007 Solidworks release of SolidWorks offers a number of new features that allow for better integration with Microsoft Visio®and other key industry productivity applications. With the release of Visio MX 2003 from Microsoft Corporation., users can now more easily create 2D drawings from 3D models in Visio or import of existing 2D drawings into Visio as templates to be traced over by the application's drawing tools. Another new feature is the ability to reuse existing drawings as templates for creating 3D models. A majority of users find it more efficient to use existing 2D drawings as templates upon which they can later trace over new 3D data. Previously, this task was completed using the drawing tools in Visio. With this release, SolidWorks 2007 has eliminated dependence on Visio or any other applications for creating these types of drawings that are then used as templates for the solid modeling process. Building on its new features released with the 2007 release, SolidWorks 2009 provides a catalog of usability improvements to ease the transition of users from other applications. Menu items have been grouped into more logical areas which makes the menu bar more user friendly. SolidWorks 2009 also eliminates dependence on Visio, Microsoft Office, and CorelDraw for creating new documents from existing data. Users can now create 3D solid models from their existing 2D drawings using a variety of specific tasks that are similar to those seen in a CAD environment. The first major enhancement in Solidworks 2012 is a completely re-vamped interface that includes a unified toolbar and multiple work areas called soft links. This feature is designed to appeal to the broader user base in an effort to make Solidworks an even more integral part in their design process. The 2012 release also includes support for the new Windows 8 platform. SolidWorks 2013 offers expanded cloud support for collaborative design projects. Working with SOLIDWORKS team members outside of the office has traditionally been difficult, but now users can work together online through cloud computing technologies. Additionally, this release also introduces enhancements to the "3D Simulation" tool that allows engineers to see how their designs will behave when tested under simulated conditions, such as stress and heat transfer. Solidworks 2014 includes SP1, which has the following improvements: The Solidworks 2015 release features a new user interface, or UI. The new UI brings the user interface of Solidworks in line with the other Windows applications. The new UI also includes features such as dynamic toolbars, Quick Access Toolbar, icons on the desktop, and so on to make working with SolidWorks easier. This release also introduces expanded support for machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to help users get their designs out faster. The 2015 release also introduces support for Windows 10; it is compatible with Windows 8.1 and works with both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. eccc085e13
